Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer content
Hi Everyone,
A quick note to (re)introduce 360desktop, which after more than 3 years of development, goes into public (beta) release end next week.
360desktop transforms the desktop into a 360-degree workspace, personalized with 360-degree wallpaper.
While the product does some clever things like letting you to grab any web content and put it on your desktop, the key feature, is that your 360-degree background can now be your favorite pano.
While we release the viewer platform next week, the (free) authoring platform/gallery is still about 4-6 weeks away. (will be looking for beta testers for authoring then).
Because of this, we’re looking to profile the work of 5-10 photographers as 360 content for 360desktop, ahead of our launch to the wider photographer/creative community.
We’re looking for photographers, interested in showcasing 2-3 of their best panoramas for users to view as 360 backgrounds to our launch audience of 100,000+.
Obviously you continue to own all content/copyright, with links/watermark branding etc. 360desktop converts all images to a proprietary/encrypted format for viewing on the desktop, in the way that protects the image from any copyright issues. (a bit like QTVR).
Have a quick look at our preview website www.360desktop.com. It will give you an idea of what we’re doing. We’ve also had a fair amount of pre-launch press, and have had more than 50,000 people sign up for the beta.
Our launch is timed for Fourth of July (a special 4th July interactive 360), together with a feature from World Vision, so we’re expecting a fair viral take-up.
We’re wanting to finalise our content within the next few days, so appreciate your feedback and any questions that you may have.
If you are interested, please drop me a line on evan.jones@360desktop.com and I’ll get back to you immediately.
Thanks
Evan Jones

Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Hi Vincèn,
Thanks for your note - we do have plans for a Mac version, but that is still some way off (into next year).
While Mac user’s can’t yet install the 360’s on their desktop (but can view them as widgets on social media sites), content creators can still use our online tool to upload/create 360 wallpaper, that Windows users can download and experience your 360’s as interactive backgrounds for their desktop.
It is still a good promotional exercise for most photographers, as we’ve had 450k+ installs of 360desktop viewer and they are all now looking for new content.
You can sign-up here http://www.360desktop.com/gallery/main.php by clicking “create 360’s, or in the header of the page.
If you need any help, or even if you would like us to create and upload a few 360’s from your JPG’s (or even QTVR files), please let us know.
Thanks
Evan
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer

Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Well to be honest with you I'm pretty disappointed with general ergonomy of site or I'm too bad :( I tried to upload a pano but didn't succeed ! I use Firefox 3 on Mac, is it a problem ? I select Fetch from this computer, select my JPG file then upload, once finished I click fetch to close window, and then nothing appears above description ! Did I miss something ?
Thanks
Vincèn
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
yes, i agree - the uploader process flow is still clunky (although we have instructions there, they are not that intuitive) - the guys are working on this (we've only gone into beta with authoring/gallery this week, and have not announced it publicly yet (other than here).
1. Click on "Browse for your images".
2. Select images you would like to upload. (maximum 10)
3. Click "Upload".
4. Once upload completed, click "Fetch" button below.
Thanks
evan
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Yep but once I click Fetch button, the popup closes and I come back to Create 360 Page but I suppose my pano is supposed to display in the large black band but nothing displays ! What should I do ?
By the way, are you interested in french version of your website ? as I could help you to translate it :)
Thanks
Vincèn
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Hi Vincèn - Yes, pano is supposed to display - the guys are redoing the workflow now. Thanks too for the translation offer. We are definitely going to be delivering multi-language versions of the site, but (as you can probably see), we are 2-3 months away from being ready for this. I'll contact you outside the thread to follow-up. thanks again, Evan
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer

thanks Francois, appreciate it :-)
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Thanks for the info. Is it possible you post an update here when workflow will be rebuilt so we can upload panos in your website ?
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
more intuitive workflow now in place - thanks for the patience and the feedback - appreciate it :-)
Re: Introducing 360desktop and looking to showcase photographer
Sorry it's nicer now with that new workflow but it works less :( When I click on Browse and Select Button, Firefox displays a popup with Error in it :( and then if I click again on Browse and Select button, nothing happens :(
I use Firefox 3 on Mac OSX Leopard with Flash 10.
Thanks
