Pipe dream: a 'digg' for the VR community?

It's not like I don't have enough to do already, but would there be an interest to have 'our own' digg-like linkdump? Many posts on the forums and blogs on the IVRPA site, but also on the numerous lists are simple 'look what I made' or 'look what I found'-style links with a minimal explanation.

Drupal is up for it, but I guess the real question is would it be used much, and would the use be worth time invested in setting it up? Also, should this be a members-only functionality, or should it be as open as we can make it to attract people to the rest of the site?

I'ld love to hear your opinion on this pipedream, even though you can be pretty sure this will not be implemented overnight ;-)

Ofcourse we'ld need some original terminology; we can't use the digg/bury memes...

What's a "digg-like link dump"?

I keep forgetting that photographers are not necessarily web-geeks ;-)

Digg is a website where users can 'dump' interesting links, along with a short description. Adding the link is very easy: in a form you put a title, the link and the description.

The real 'magic' of Digg though, is how the digg community can 'rate' a link by simple saying they like it ('digg' it), or don't like it ('bury' it). The links are then presented ordered by how many people liked the link. The result is that the frontpage is always filled with interesting links, and uninteresting links ('spam'), which is also interesting for general visitors of the site.

So, depending on if we can get our community active in rating links, we should get a page with all the latest cool VR projects and news.

More on digg can be found on wikipedia. No, I am not going to explain what wikipedia is ;-)

Re: Pipe dream: a 'digg' for the VR community?

Okay, I did get the idea of what it was.

I think its a great idea, sort of a Virtual Tour Search Index rated by votes instead of Google algorithms

I try to take notice each time I visit IVRPA.org, whos on the site and how many Guests. There's ususally 2, 3 or 4 times more Guests than Users. At least a few of them must be thinking about using a Virtual Tour for their website/business.

I think having a list of nice examples of members non-gallery work as it appears in real life online situations and high profile examples like the Dream House on HGTV.com would show how Virtual Imaging can be used by many industries.

Non-Gallery examples can show different display options like the one I just talked a Condo Project where they navigate from a floorplan getting pop-up windows

Maybe we could just start out with a simple setup under IVRPA Projects that doesn't have the Voting function in it, just a list?

I vote Aldo adds it to his really long ToDo list

Guests than Users. ??
Where do you find that.

Hi Aldo
Not supported in Safari ???

Anyhow who is guest. I am only logged in when I need to post so I assume I am also a guest then.

Hi Hans, good to 'see' you here. Unfortunately I have no idea what you are trying to say. Care to elaborate?
