Adding sound to Quicktime movies

Hello everyone!

I need information concerning the software and procedure to add sound to cyndrical and cubic quicktime movies. I have a potential client that I feel could benefit from adding sound.

I'm on a MAC OS 10.4.7 and I use Real Viz Stitcher 5.1 to create the panoramas.

Thanks so much in advance

John

Hi John:Do you need to add

Hi John:

Do you need to add the sound directly to your QTVR? I've found that it's much more flexible to have the sound as an external element, though this is project dependent.

Using an app like LiveStage pro, you can add sound directly to your QTVR project (including directional sound). I believe CubicConnector will let you add sound as well.

Hope this helps,

Adding sound to quicktime movies

Hi Patrick

Thanks for your reply. I guess I want to add sound directly to my QTRV so when you play an individual QTRV like I've seen on some of the World Wide Panorama project entrees music is heard along with the quicktime movie. When you stated "it's much more flexible to have the sound as an external element, though this is project dependent" what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about a virtual tour that consists of several quicktime movies?

I did upgrade to quicktime pro yesterday. I hope there are good instructions on how to add sound.

Thanks again

John Blake

Good instructions? hmmmm...

Well, if you add sound TO your QTVR (that is, the audio and your QTVR are all in one .mov file), then you can't easily change the sound or deliver your QTVR without the sound.

If you have a Web page, and embed both your QTVR and audio file in the Web page as separate files, then you can easily change out the sound or VR.

If you aren't going to ever divorce the two, then it might make sense to add audio directly to your QTVR movie. File management is easier. :)

Adding sound to your QTVR by using QuickTime isn't too hard, but it isn't 100% intuitive. And, you need to be able to tell it to play!

For some background, you can read directly from Apple at this link.

I know Steve Gulie had some "sprites" available for download, but some people have had trouble using them with more recent versions of QuickTime... I created a couple sprites which you can use to play audio which is embedded in your QTVR; These go beyond Steve's old sprite movies, by letting you choose to loop or not loop the audio.

Have a look at http://beta.ivrpa.org/node/606

Hope they help, and feel free to share the link.

Cheers,

Re: Good instructions? hmmmm...

Patrick

thanks for the info on adding sound. I finally had a client project in which I recorded sound with my D2X. I folloowed your instructions and it worked perfectly. What I am trying to accomplish now is to have the QTVR auto rotate while the sound is playing. I can't seem to get this to work even though there is a check box for auto play the QTRV movie when the file is open ( tried this with the non autorotate version). The original QTRV movie was set is Stitcher 5.2 to auto rotate. I also rerendered the QTRV to not autorotate. Neither version would work to autorotate with the auto loop sprite I downloaded.
Could you please help.

I emailed Landis a couple of days ago for help but haven't heard from him.

Thanks

Re: Auto-rotate sprites, Stitcher, spinControl

Hi John:

Glad the sound sprites & instructions I made helped out!

I haven't used the add autorotate function in Stitcher, so can't help you there; maybe another member here has experience?

I tend to "roll my own", but don't have any auto-rotate sprites available (that is, similar to the sound one I provided above).

If you're looking for something to handle sounds, autorotation, and even more without you having to add anything to your QTVR files, (begin disgusting self-promotion here) you might check out spinControl:VR at the link below (end disgusting self-promotion).

The "autoplay" preference you speak of, in QuickTime, has nothing to do with auto-rotation. This is more for movies with actual timelines which _could_ begin to play automatically.

Cheers,

PS: the WWP link you sent showed a big question mark... ?

Re: Auto-rotate sprites, Stitcher, spinControl
