Info for folks using Flash to deliver panoramas; also, new blog (aka "photo dump")

Hey there:

In an effort to localize information regarding the current crop of Flash based panorama players, and since some of the developers don't have forums (or ones that exist are clunky, spammy or broken), I have widened the focus over at flashpanos.com.

iPhone Wallpaper

More fun with iPhone... :-)

I was adding some photos to my iPhone (finally!), and decided to post a set for public use. Those of you with iPhones, feel free to view and download some of my photos for your own iPhone... Free iPhone wallpaper -- what could be better? :-P ...Enjoy!

Sorry, nothing panoramic yet, which looks good at 480x320. :-(

Cheers,

Batch file renaming for photographers: special case!

OK, so yesterday and today I had an interesting shoot which has been a learning experience. I was documenting a laboratory experiment which was time sensitive and of patent legal importance (or is that legal patent?).

Halfway through the day I was made aware that the exact time of photography was of essence -- that is, not only did I need to capture things at the right times, but also the images' timestamps needed to match the clock time in the laboratory; Lab techs were taking notes and logging times of experiments while I was taking photos, but also independently of photography.

After a bit of research, we figured out that "camera time" was exactly 8 minutes ahead of "lab time"

Kudos to Looking Glass...

I realized I haven't posted here in a short while!

I've been working on several different projects, and haven't had a lot of time to bloggify. Tomorrow I officially embark on a 30+ Object VR shoot, which should keep me busy for a while. I'm bringing in a friend of mine, Kevin Berne, to help with actual shooting -- which will allow me time to be a keyboard jockey and hash out the interactive delivery (Flash) for the project -- while I (gasp!) direct. One object by myself, sure -- but 32?

Machine Love CD Cover

As seen on iTunes! :-P

A nighttime picture of mine, from a chilly rooftop cocktail party in the Mission District of San Francisco, has made it to iTunes... Berkeley-based Machine Love (electronic soul funk music mavens) are using it to grace the cover and sleeve for their latest CD Pushing West.

Here's another one of Machine Love playing live at the Anon Salon in downtown San Francisco.

Microsoft Photosynth

Microsoft's amazing Photosynth technology was on exhibit at Siggraph 2006.
The previous evening I had downloaded the video from Microsoft Live Labs, and
watched it over and over to figure out what it was, and more importantly,
what its implications for photography. (Of course, I still don't know what it means, but
I am not alone on this...) Check out the discussion on Slashdot, if you have time.

One of the people at the booth suggested
that a technical beta would be available in the spring. I ran into Blaise Agüera y Arcas
at the booth, here's a pix of him. I recognized him from the Live Labs video.
